Book Blogger Hop...

The Friday Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Crazy for Books, and today's question is:

"What are your feelings on losing followers?  Have you ever stopped following a blog?"

How can you stop following a blog with pictures like this?

With a book review blog, you always want to provide content that is interesting to many, but sometimes, your insights, thoughts, etc., may just not fit with everyone.  And that's okay -- like many of you, I do this blog for me (selfish, aren't I?)!

I only stop following a blog if I see that they haven't posted something in a looonnng time...but it rarely happens that I stop following.  If anyone figures out how to bypass Blogger's max limit on blogs to follow, though...let me know!!

Happy Reading!

  1. I heard somewhere (don't quote me on this because I never did verify) that the max only applies if you follow at the top of the page. If you follow via a GFC widget it doesn't matter. Like I said, I don't know if its true but I do follow a lot of blogs and only a few of them are via the follow option at the top of blogger.

Anyway, just stopping in to say hello. I think the question this week is a great one and the challenge that Jennifer issued is worth it. I know we all want more comments. What a great way to get us started.

    Have a fantastic weekend.

  4. Blogs are meant to be for you though.. I have to admit whilst having subscribers and people interested in little old me would be AWESOME I get rather tied of people 'begging' for followers... I personally think you should do these projects for yourself and then if others are interested power too you you know?

You are better off writing for yourself than anyone else, because in the end you are your own biggets judge right??

Keep on blogging and happy to have hopped on by

  5. I think that I might have to give google reader a try! I've never really thought about it before now but people are saying it's a lot easier. I really don't know what I'm doing though so I'll have to mess around a bit. Happy weekend

    Happy hopping! :)

  7. I don't follow on blogs because I choose to use a feed reader instead. No limit to the number of blogs you can list in that...believe me!

  8. Thanks for hopping by my blog-I am also a participant in the Du Maurier challenge-

  9. I agree losing a follower is rough only in that it drives me nuts not knowing why. I like the reminder that we blog for us and because we love it. I think that helps keep it in perspective :)

Thanks for coming by and hope you have a fun weekend :)

  10. CUTE animals! :) I hope you have a great weekend!

  11. Hi,
Just following through on the hop :) I think if you aren't selfish about it you quickly lose the passion that started the blog in the first place.

  12. I generally don't take the time to figure out who hasn't posted in a long time, so I rarely unsubscribe to a blog. I love the picture of your babies!

  13. We feel pretty much the same on the follow and being followed queston.

Way to reel people in what that cute puppy picture!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I've enjoyed visiting yours.

    Have a great weekend!

  18. It stinks to lose followers but it happens. As long as we do our blogs for ourselves first, it shouldn't be a big issue. And you're right, pictures like yours definitely work in keeping followers!

I can't get Linky's to work on my computer so I'm not on the list but my blog hop is here

  19. I wonder how many people you're following. I get a bit nervous when google reader tells me I've got more than 50 unread posts... So I try to keep the number down. :-)

  20. love that picture!

Hopping back at you. Have a great weekend.

  21. Thanks for stopping by my blog The Crazy Bookworm, and leaving that awesome comment, it made my day! That pic of your pets is too cute. I'm an animal lover myself with 3 dogs. It's a crazy life, but I wouldn't trade it for anything!

    Happy Hopping!

  22. I really hate to lose followers, but I understand that it happens. I also am reluctant to stop following blogs, and rarely do so, unless I find that the content is not updated enough, or that the bloggers tastes are just too far from my own.

  23. What kind of bbd (big brown dog) is that? He's adorable!

  24. Heck NO you can't pass up a blog with pictures like that! Shoot, I need to start posting pictures of my kitties on the blog. That cat from Homeward Bound was right: Cats DO rule.

Anyway, I'm a new follower because, hey, I like coffee AND books. And animals. You have three awesome components that equal an awesome blog and I can't wait to read more!

    New follower, obviously.

  25. I'm always a little bummed when I lose followers but make every effort to
turn every lost follower into a learning experience so I can improve my
    performance.

On the flip side, I only stop following people when they give me a reason to
such as being totally off message or being too controversial in an negative,
    over-the-top way.

    Happy Book Blogger Hop Friday!

  26. This is the response I left of Peppermint Ph.D.'s blog:

I'm just about a month old at blogging and have just started to have people follow. The people follow, I follow because, first, they're fellow book lovers and second, I like what they have to say about the books they read.

I started my blog to keep track of the books I've read throughout the year and maybe connect with other who have a love of books that borders on obsession (not that I know anyone like that). If people do read and follow that's great. I like the idea of meeting new people.

As for the look of my blog. I'm still getting used to it. I know I need to spend a weekend creating the look I really want. I'm still trying to design a look I love.

I like the idea of Book Blogger Hop. I'm going to have to work it into my blog from now on

  27. Hopping by to return the visit! It's lovely to have followers and get comments, but I agree with what you said--I blog because I reeeally like books and I like talking about them. Added attention is great, but mainly I'm just doing this because I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree with you. I usually only actively stop following a blog if they stop posting!

  29. hi just hopping over from the bookblog I am also doing the blog just for me but its great to have followers also, then you think its all worthwhile
    love your blog

  30. Thanks for stopping by The Prairie Library! I am loving this week's question and seeing everyone's responses.

My cat looks a lot like yours but with more black. Max is very mischievous and likes "kill" anything that moves too quickly including my toes.

  31. you're right - one couldn't possibly stop following with such pictures! :--)

  32. Awwww... that's almost like cheating showing us your cute little animal buddies on the top of the page! How can we resist?

I'm not real worried about the number of followers. I'm happy when people stop by and find something interesting to comment on even if it's only a few folks.

  33. What a cute picture!
I'm your newest follower, please stop by and follow back!

  34. Thanks everyone for hopping by!

lizamich -- Roma the Dog is a fabulous mix -- the doctor says Viszla (Hungarian Hunting Dog) and maybe (?) a Pit. I know all doggie parents say this, but I promise she is the sweetest dog who was once a stray and we plucked her off the streets almost 3 years ago!

Chelle -- Yes, my cat is a lover of toes, especially early in the morning when I'm still asleep and I don't expect his sneak attack on them...! :)

  35. Any blog with books and pets stays! Adorable picture, and they look so comfortable together. Which was there first? (I'm guessing the dog)

At times, I lose a few followers too and then add a few within a day or so - it all evens out.

  36. I go through fits and spurts where I let my blogroll get too big and I get stressed about reading all the posts all the time and then I'll unfollow blogs that aren't such a good fit for me or that don't post too much. For me, I can only read so many blogs regularly or it starts to get to be too much. And I suppose you could just read in a reader -- I don't think they have limits in those.

  37. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Your blog is so thorough...Love it.

  38. I see that you're reading By Fire, By Water - I hope you like it as much as I did - it was one of my rare 5 out of 5 star books this year!

I never knew *until today when visiting another blog on the Hop* that there was a MAXIMUM number of blogs you could follow!

I can't keep up with the blogs I already follow, so I don't add very many to my follow list, although I do have a program where I have interesting blogs and websites listed, and try to visit on a regular basis.

  39. What a sweet picture! I want to snuggle with them both. I have stopped following one or two blogs only because their reviews were ridiculous, "I liked this book. The characters were funny. There was just enough romance. I'm glad I read it." That's not a book review. Or else, someone's review was so off, that I felt he was prejudiced against someone, perhaps female protagonists. So I stopped following him. But those are the only two and thanks for the encouragement on NaNoWriMo. Keep checking back. I'll be posting my numbers.
